FIXED IMPLANTS

Breast augmentation has become the most popular cosmetic procedure requested by our female patients. At The Australian Centre for Cosmetic Surgery, we offer you the latest in breast augmentation Our aim is to offer you, the patient, a very natural implant that is available in a fixed or adjustable size. The adjustable implant is explained below on this page.

The fixed or adjustable implant is a "tear drop shape" with an outer pliable envelope enclosing saline. The surface of the implant is textured, and your surgeon will determine the size required by you at the consultation.

Saline is similar to the fluid that makes up 70% of the human body. If the implant should leak and the saline is released, it can safely be absorbed by your body.

The implant is placed either in front of or beneath the muscle and the incision made in the natural fold under the breast. The incision is usually only 2-3 centimeters long, and the operation will take approximately 1 ¼ hours. Recovery time is a very individual thing and can vary from patient to patient. Discomfort usually only lasts for 2-3 days, and you will be given medication to make you as comfortable as possible.

THE ADJUSTABLE BREAST IMPLANT

During surgery to increase breast size saline fluid implants are placed underneath the breast tissue and on top of or behind the muscle. These implants, empty when first in place, and are filled by the surgeon using a valve at the bottom of the implant. Once the breast is at the required size, the surgeon will remove the valve and close the breast, completing the operation.

With the adjustable implant, the valve will remain in place after the operation. Although the valve remains inside the breast it is not visible, but can be felt by the surgeon to access the implant several weeks after surgery to further increase the breast size.

The advantages of the adjustable implants are:-

  • As the breast size is increased gradually, the amount of discomfort for the patient is minimal, and most can return to work in 2 days. (Longer if the implant is placed behind the muscle).
  • Any post operative swelling will subside prior to further adjustment, allowing the patient to determine the final size of the breast. The first adjustment is usually done one month after the initial surgery.
  • The patient may decide to further increase or decrease the size, months or years after the first procedure.
  • The remote injection valve can be removed at a later time if desired
  • lf the patient becomes pregnant, then the adjustable implant can be deflated allowing the breast to grow naturally (and not be stretched over a fully inflated implant) and so minimises post pregnancy sagging & stretch marks. After the baby is weaned the implant can then be re-inflated restoring the prepregnancy appearance.
  • Procedure costs may vary from time to time so please call 0414 251 234 for current fees. A total cost will also be given at a consultation.
