Many women feel unsatisfied with both the shape and size of their breasts. A breast augmentation can help balance a woman’s proportion, and often results in an increase in confidence and self-esteem.
Although many women seek a larger cup size, the goal of any breast augmentation is to achieve natural-looking breasts, that are in proportion with the rest of the body and which do not look ‘over done’.
This can be achieved by conducting a comprehensive examination prior to surgery. As well as taking detailed measurements, we offer you samples of the available implants, which you will be able to feel and try. You will also have a detailed discussion about your requirements and the suitability of the surgery to meet your needs.
At The Australian Centre for Cosmetic/Genital Surgery, we offer the latest in breast augmentation. Depending on your individual circumstances, you may choose from either a fixed or adjustable implant.
Fixed breast implants
A fixed implant is of a set size, and is either round or anatomical in shape, with an outer pliable envelope enclosing the saline or cohesive gel filling. The surface of the implant is textured, and together with your surgeon you will select the optimal size prior to surgery. We also offer the Brazilian Polyurethane coated implants which have a much reduced incidence of capsular contraction.
Saline is similar to the fluid that makes up 70 percent of the human body. If the implant should leak and the saline is released, it can safely be absorbed by your body. The cohesive gel implant gives a very natural feeling breast.
The implant is placed either in front of or beneath the muscle and the incision made in the natural fold under the breast. The incision is usually only 2-3 cm long, and the operation will typically take just over one hour. Recovery time varies from patient to patient. Discomfort usually only lasts for 2-3 days, and you will be given medication to make you as comfortable as possible.

Adjustable breast implants
Adjustable implants are different in that they are empty when put in place. They are then filled, with Saline, by the surgeon using a valve at the bottom of the implant. Once the breast is at the required size, the surgeon will remove the valve and close the breast, completing the operation. With the adjustable implant, the valve will remain in place after the operation. Although the valve remains inside the breast it is not visible, but can be felt by the surgeon to access the implant several weeks after surgery to further increase the breast size.
There are a number of advantages to the adjustable breast implants
As the breast size is increased gradually, the amount of discomfort for the patient is minimal, and most can return to work in two days. (Longer if the implant is placed behind the muscle).
Any post-operative swelling will subside prior to further adjustment, allowing the patient to determine the final size of the breast. The first adjustment is usually done one month after the initial surgery.
The patient may decide to further increase or decrease the size, months or years after the first procedure.
The remote injection valve can be removed at a later time if desired
If the patient becomes pregnant, then the adjustable implant can be deflated allowing the breast to grow naturally (and not be stretched over a fully inflated implant) minimising the risk of post-pregnancy sagging and stretch marks. After the baby is weaned the implant can then be re-inflated restoring the pre-pregnancy appearance.
In the rare event of ripping, an adjustment in the saline volume will usually solve the problem. A combination cohesive gel/saline implant offers the advantages of both of these types of implant.
